PORTLAND, Ore. — A disturbing report from our news partners at Willamette Week focusing on a Portland Fire Bureau lieutenant and accusations that led to him being fired from the job.
They looked into the investigation and the firefighter's union's response.
KATU’s Steve Dunn spoke with WW’s Managing Editor Aaron Mesh about the firefighter, Peter St. John, who was credited for saving lives when a contractor hit a gas line in a Northwest Portland neighborhood in 2016, which caused an explosion that destroyed at least one building. After St. John was later accused of disturbing behavior, he was fired. But the firefighters' union worked to save his job.
