Patriots leader to see where Jack Jones' 'head's at' after sideline behavior - MassLive.com

Though he was playing in a new country, Sunday afternoon brought more of the same for Jack Jones.

The Patriots cornerback didn’t play in the first quarter for the second straight week, and his body language continued to raise eyebrows. With the starting defense on the field, Jones wasn’t standing on the sideline with the other reserve defenders. Instead, he sat back on the New England bench with a giant cape slung over his uniform. The second-year corner didn’t look engaged.

Eventually, Jones did enter the game but played only 10 snaps, the fewest of his career in a game where he was healthy. Jabrill Peppers has become the most vocal leader in the Patriots secondary, and after the 10-6 loss to the Colts, he was asked whether he knew the reason for Jones’ sideline behavior.

“No, not yet,” Peppers said in the Patriots locker room. “But I’ve got a very good relationship with him. I’m going to go talk to him, see where his head’s at. We’ve got a bye week coming up. Chill out and refresh, reload and come back ready to go to New York.”

Jones landed in Bill Belichick’s doghouse when he was reportedly late to the team hotel before a loss to the Commanders. Unlike fellow curfew-breaker JC Jackson, he was permitted to come on the team’s trip to Germany, but both were benched to start the Washington game. Earlier in the week, Peppers said he’d been encouraged by the way Jones bounced back from that punishment.

“He’s responded. We’re all grown men. He took it like a man,” Peppers said after practicing in Frankfurt on Friday afternoon. “He knows what we expect from him. He knows what the team expects from him. And we expect that we’ll get that from him. So it is what it is. We handled it. It’s behind us now. The only thing to do is come out here with a win.”
