She’s not kid-ding.
An Australian model who went viral last month after revealing 117 reasons she doesn’t want kids has now released another PSA for Christmas.
This time, she rattled off the 12 commandments of what not to say to child-free women during the holidays, as seen in an Instagram reel with 120,000 views online.
“Less trash behavior, more shots this Christmas,” declared Ellie Gonsalves, 33, in the caption to the post.
The Aussie and her husband Ross Scutts, 36, who tied the knot last year after 15 years of dating, decided they didn’t want kids eight years ago for a multitude of reasons.
Unfortunately, this didn’t prevent the pair from getting hectored by family, friends and strangers about their lifestyle choice. To keep prying parties at bay, Gonsalves decided to list 12 things not to “do/ask and should STFU up about these holidays” when conversing with people who’ve opted to remain child-free.
These verboten comments included “When are you having kids,” “When are you getting married” and “Can I set you up with a friend/family member?”
Gonsalves also gave general non-child-related tips on how to behave during the holidays, which entailed not complaining about the holiday food if you didn’t cook it, and being gracious even when receiving a gift you didn’t want.
She also warned people not to disrespect LGBTQ relatives during the holidays.
“Don’t be unkind/dismissive about or homophobic if your family member has the courage to come out about their sexuality,” warned Gonsalves, who first caught US audiences’ attention after rocking a bikini in a 2017 Superbowl commercial for Yellowtail.
Last month, the model went viral after sharing an Instagram story detailing a “very HONEST personal list as to why I will remain child-free.”
These 117 reasons included overpopulation, taking a backseat to the tykes in your partner’s eyes, and the fact that, unlike marriage, children really are a responsibility until death.
Needless to say, Gonsalves faced oodles of backlash over her anti-tot stance — prompting her to share the list to her Instagram grid, alongside a lengthy rebuttal to her critics.
“I had many people saying to me today (out of love) ‘Are you sure you want to post this list?’ I have also already received hundreds of [direct messages] criticizing me telling me how much of a horrible & broken person that I am,” Gonsalves wrote. “And while some of those things on my list are satirical, many are serious & factual.”
She added, “Societal pressure when it comes to this topic are [sic] truly questionable & I believe unfair towards those with differing opinions & rarely do we see a voice in support of this … because let’s face it, the public backlash can be too much.”
