Two teachers in Bristol Township School District’s middle schools were selected to present “Get Organized for Your TFI Today” at the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support (PaPBS) Implementers’ Forum.

The conference was held in Hershey from November 1-3. Presenters were Regina Mazzocchi, an 8th grade ELA teacher and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (SWPBIS) coach at Neil A. Armstrong Middle School, and Megan Gancarz, secondary instructional coach at Ben Franklin Middle School.

TFI stands for Tiered Fidelity Inventory, and measures the extent that each school implements its SWPBIS with fidelity. SWPBIS provides the behavior supports needed to improve social, emotional, behavioral and academic outcomes for students. SWPBIS lesson plans, action plans, school wide matrices, mission statements and forms are all added to TFI.

During their presentation, MTSS/SWPBIS coaches learned how to save time when the team is meeting to complete the TFI and how to work together as a team to prepare for it. One tip Mazzocchi and Gancarz shared was to update TFI throughout the year and have it mirror the submittal process to make it as easy as possible.

Mazzocchi and Gancarz have been working together in order for the two middle schools in the district to have as similar SWPBIS programs as possible.

“We have had amazing opportunities to collaborate together and align in what we are doing in our schools,” said Mazzocchi.

The District received other accolades during the forum. Neil A. Armstrong Middle School was recognized for implementing Tiers 1-2-3 of SWPBIS with fidelity, and Brookwood Elementary School was recognized for Tier 1-2, both for the 2022-2023 school year. Additionally, Keystone Elementary School was recognized as a school program that earned Universal (Tier 1) Sustained Implementation with fidelity.

“For Armstrong to be recognized in all three tiers, it shows our decisions are data-driven and we are meeting the needs of our students,” said Mazzocchi. “It takes a whole team to implement SWPBIS at all three tiers with fidelity.”

Each Bristol Township school had SWPBIS team members at the PaPBS Implementers’ Forum and Bernadette Hannah, elementary supervisor of curriculum and instruction, was also there.

Schools are not required to participate in SWPBIS, and Mazzocchi says it’s significant that all Bristol Township schools participate.

“The entire district is committed to working towards the goal of positive school culture and climate,” said Mazzocchi.
