The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced last week a Pennsylvania company is recalling its vodka sauce from Whole Foods Market locations in Massachusetts and 10 other states after milk was not shown as an allergen on the label.
Winter Gardens Quality Foods, Inc., the business that offers the item, is voluntary recalling its Whole Foods Market Vodka Sauce from stores in Massachusetts and in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island, the FDA said in a statement on March 26.
The product, which was located in refrigerated aisles in 16-ounce plastic containers, was sold at the locations on or after March 2, according to the agency’s statement.
“Consumers who have a food allergy or have any sensitivity to milk should not consume the product as it could result in a serious life-threatening allergic reaction,” the statement said. “The lot code can be found printed on the lid. Use the lot number to determine if the product is affected not the best by date.”
The recall was announced after a customer complained that the product’s label stated the wrong ingredient and allergen, according to the FDA.
No one has suffered any illness due to the product yet, the FDA said.
