Vita Wild Herring in Wine Sauce recalled because it is not in wine sauce - pennlive.com

Vita Food Products has recalled more than 8,000 jars of wild herring in wine sauce that are actually in sour cream.

The company is recalling 8,376 plastic 32-ounce jars of the Vita Wild Herring in Wine Sauce because the label is wrong. The herring is in sour cream, which has milk, which is an allergen.

The mislabeling will be obvious to consumers because of the color of the sauce.

People who are allergic to milk could have a life-threatening reaction.

According to an announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the product details are:

  • 32-ounce, lot code 03609, UPC code 2263540011 with a best if used before date of June 26, 2020.

“Mislabeled products that are subject to recall will be obvious to consumers because the recalled product’s white sour cream sauce can be seen through the clear plastic jar even though the label may state wine sauce.”

The product was distributed to retailers across the United States beginning on Jan. 13, 2020.

For more information or to get a refund, call Vita Food customer service at 800-989-8482 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central time, weekdays.
