I am not a parent of a Reed City student, but I am a parent and am also a graduate of RCHS. After certain activities I have witnessed in the last week, I felt like some people in the community might need to brush up on some language.

(verb) subject to aggressive pressure or intimidation.
I completely understand the need to keep our children safe from harm. However, the lengths that some “concerned parents” are going to in this community are crossing the line from concern into bullying and harassment. It is terrifying.
I’ve seen the complaints of said parents that they fear for their children being exposed to things that are inappropriate for their age. I implore you to look into your own home and your relationship with your children. What YOU are teaching your children is unforgivable.
If you wonder why the schools and teachers have told students that their genders, pronouns etc won’t be shared with parents unless given permission, you only need to look into the mirror. Would your child feel comfortable opening up to you after seeing how you are treating other children in the community? Are you a safe place for your child? Or just a safe place for the child you expect them to be. Do Better.
To the students currently watching the adults in Reed City. You are the future. It’s ok to expect more. Lead by example. Someday you’ll enter into a big world and it will make all of this seem trivial. But it will always matter to the people that you were kind to, and it will send out ripples that can become waves of change. Much love.
