The best of basketball is often what can’t be quantified by numbers. Every dunk is two points, right, but we all know not every dunk is just two points. There’s no analytical rating system to measure the best tweets players send. Basketball-Reference doesn’t track the outrageous hats Carmelo Anthony wears — but we sure do, documenting them online like the proper historians we are.

That’s territory we must explore, and it’s what Zach Harper is here for. We’ll keep covering rotations and rumors and remarks as the NBA’s season inches closer, but we have time for this, too.

Does Luka Doncic have sauce?

Zach Harper: I think Luka Doncic has the potential for sauce, but I do not believe he currently possesses sauce. I try to live my life by a philosophy of, “If you have to think about it, then your answer is no.” I go with that on whether or not I should move into this new apartment or buy these new shoes, or even when it comes to whether or not I want to order a certain food or restaurant on whichever food delivery service is sponsoring The Athletic NBA Show Podcast. If I have to think about it, then the answer is no. If it’s truly meant to be, then the answer is an automatic yes.

I feel that way about Luka having “sauce.” He currently doesn’t have sauce. He has moxy.
