Riot Games has warned League of Legends players who leave a game early (intentional or otherwise) as well as those who become idle, otherwise known as AFK (away from keyboard) will soon be facing stricter penalties in an effort to improve player behavior.
In a recent blog post on the official League of Legends website, lead developers for the game's Behavioral Systems Team, BarackProbama and TimTamMonster explained that it will introduce queue lockouts. They stated, "Up until now, we've penalized AFKing with Queue Delays... about 9% of our players worldwide engage in consistent AFK behavior and don’t seem to be deterred by a few delays between their games."

The pair went on to discuss the incoming changes they hope will combat this type of behavior, "When a player experiences a Queue Lockout, they will have a popup displayed explaining their punishment and will be unable to start games in MOBA queues. When we issue a Queue Lockout, we're not saying 'hey, doesn't it suck to have your time wasted?' We're removing the player from the population for a while so they can't continue to AFK in games."
Currently, the changes are being rolled out in a select number of regions, as Riot wants to ensure all players are treated fairly regardless of connectivity issues. "As this is rolled out, we are committed to continuing to monitor AFKs, both in regards to the frequency of this behaviour and regional specific connectivity issues." The developers went on to confirm plans to implement the changes globally in the future, advising players to keep an eye on forthcoming patch notes for further details.
League of Legends was released in 2009 and has grown in popularity over the years, with champions such as Jinx, Ekko, Caitlyn, Heimerdinger and Vi becoming more prominent in marketing and social media. Netflix has announced a new animated series for the multiplayer online battle arena video game. Titled Arcane, the upcoming show's synopsis reads:
Set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story follows the origins of two iconic League champions-and the power that will tear them apart.
Arcane from Riot Games and Fortiche Productions, was created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee. It is set to premiere this fall.
