MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Morris School District has announced, that as of Tuesday afternoon, there were 39 active positive cases of COVID district wide as well as 347 students or staff members in quarantine. New cases have been identified at Morristown High School, Normandy Park School, Alexander Hamilton School, Sussex Avenue School, Alfred Vail School, Hillcrest School, Woodland School and Lafayette Learning Center, said district officials.
The Morris School District will remain closed through November 30. Local health officials are hopeful that a temporary closure will all numbers to subside, said district officials.
However, community behavior will be a factor in deciding whether schools can remain open for December.
"We know that coronavirus transmission is not occurring within our school buildings but rather through activities outside of school within people’s homes and out in the community", the update read. "Whether we see another marked increase in cases in December will depend on how vigilant everyone is during the next two weeks--especially over the Thanksgiving break. Governor Murphy has instituted revised guidelines on indoor and outdoor gatherings; however, please be aware that we have seen multiple positive cases in our district as a result of even smaller get-togethers among non-household members. Please keep this in mind when making plans on the weekends and during the holiday".
