Ranking Famous Dave’s BBQ sauce flavors sold in grocery stores - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- If the coronavirus pandemic has you firing up the grill more than usual rather than visiting your favorite restaurants perhaps you’re interested in trying a new barbecue sauce to vary things up.

Earlier this summer we ranked 79 barbecue sauces found at Giant Eagle and today we’re back with a ranking of sauces made by popular chain Famous Dave’s. If you’re craving your favorite menu items from Famous Dave’s, you can still enjoy some of their sauces on your own creations.

We found three varieties of Famous Dave’s BBQ sauces at our local Marc’s grocery store, and these sauces are also sold at many Walmart, Meijer and Gordon Food Service (GFS) stores, and, of course, on Amazon. Four sauces in all are available in retail outlets, or for sale at Famous Dave’s restaurants.

Being big barbecue fans ourselves, we couldn’t help but taste -- and rank -- the three Famous Dave’s sauces we found. Our thoughts are below.

Bottle says: Straight from Hell’s kitchen, a devilishly good hot sauce, so damn tasty it’s that sinful! Only the hottest peppers stolen from the Devil’s own backyard were used. Caution may have aphrodisiac side effects!

We say: Truth in advertising on the label! Wowzaa! This sauce is not for those who can’t tolerate substantial heat -- the kick is immediate and intense. If you crave fire, check this one out.

Bottle says: Generously slather my grill master’s secret blend over ribs, chicken, pork and beef for that authentic “right out of the pit” flavor. This sauce is a tasty blend of hand picked herbs, spices and natural favors.

We say: This sauce is full of true western North Carolina barbecue favor. The thick sauce has tiny bits of onion and grains of pepper amid a molasses base. There is a slight peppery after-taste.
