Letters: Talk about bad behavior! - TwinCities.com-Pioneer Press

In response to the Letter to the Editor titled “This bad behavior” of July 31:

The writer is perplexed by her perceived bad behavior of Democrats. I, too, am perplexed by those who remain loyal to President Trump. He has openly displayed extreme bad behavior. He refused to call John McCain a war hero. He mocked the physically handicapped, dishonored a Gold Star family, constantly uses his bullying technique when he opposes someone. Then there are the thousands of verified, blatant lies he has told the American people.

Yes, I am a proud Democrat with many friends and relatives who still support the president. They are fine, Christian, proud Americans. Even knowing that, I cannot understand their reasoning. Why do they support such blatant, bad behavior?

Democrats are not the sole owners of bad behavior.

Jan Vickney, Amery

Closed minds

The letter titled “How to move forward” on July 30 attempts to take to task a previous letter writer for expressing his opinion concerning the riots and other illegal activities that have recently taken place. Nowhere in previous writer’s letter is the word “protest’ used, and I strongly suspect that he, like the vast majority of Americans, supports everyone’s constitutional right to peaceful protest.

The “How to move forward” letter writer, meanwhile, mentions “fully funding schools” (Minnesota spends above the national average per pupil), access to health care (employee-sponsored, MNsure, open-market, Medicare are some options), and “affordable housing” (current real estate inventory at an all-time low, who’s buying all the houses if they are not affordable?)

She then suggests that the previous letter writer and others who think as he does are closing their minds. Further, she condescendingly suggests that those “who think as he does” should continue to read “countless books” in an effort to broaden our knowledge, without ever mentioning the possibility of meaningful debate or the consideration of other points of view.

Closed minds, indeed.
