A parenting coach is telling parents that it can only take 15 minutes a day to change their child’s behavior. Child development will always be a complex structure, and there is a lot that goes into how a child acts and the way they think. Experts are continuously studying how children develop, and ways that parents can work with their children to ensure optimal growth. Since there is no parenting handbook for mom to turn to when her child starts behaving negatively, all mom can do is look to the experts in the hopes they can guide her in the right direction.
According to Today’s Parent and Daily Advent, a parenting coach is filling moms in on a tip that she says will change her child’s behavior and it will only take 15 minutes a day. Sarah Rosensweet is a parenting coach from Toronto, Canada and she is the one with all the advice.
One mom shared her story about the troubling behavior she was having with her children. They did not seem to listen, that they were fighting bedtime and even the simple act of putting on pajamas was becoming a huge chore that involved arguments and fights. This mom did not like what this was doing to her as a parent and was trying to find a way to fix it.
Sarah suggested 15 minutes of “special time,” and states that this is something that all parents should be doing every day. She recommends that all families do this, and at any age. Moms of toddlers should do this, and even moms with teenagers should partake in this. It can help deepen the connection we have with our children, help us empathize with them, and can even correct their behavior. It is all about connection.
Sarah stated that when our children feel that we really see them and understand them, it shows them that they matter to us and when they feel that way it can lead them to want to be more cooperative. For 15 minutes every day, parents should be shutting out the world and really connecting with their children. Whether that be doing a craft together, playing with toys together or even reading together. These are times when the cell phones and distractions go away, and mom can really focus on her child(ren) and give them the attention that they need to thrive. Sarah said that when people think of “special time,” they tend to think about all-day adventures, but it really doesn’t have to be that elaborate to make a difference.
