The United States is seeing another surge of the novel coronavirus this fall, and it is likely caused by human behavior and the cold weather.
What’s going on?
Experts continue to say that cold weather and human behavior have led to a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.
Health and Human Services secretary, Alex Azar told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday (via CNN):
- “People are going indoors, they’re not minding the three W’s.”
- “Our advice is always the same. Wash your hands, watch your distance, wear face coverings.”
Azar told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos there might be more tragedy on the way.
- “We’re quite concerned about where the disease is spreading as well as the Thanksgiving spread of disease, and we’re worried about people and the behaviors coming up with Christmas.”
- “We want to make sure everyone’s loved ones are there next Christmas, especially when we have so much hope of vaccines. So we’re on a forward footing.”
Worry from Fauci
Dr. Anthony Fauci said over the weekend that “we’re beginning to see the results of the Thanksgiving surge,” but more could come from Christmas.
Dr. Fauci says his concerns about Christmas “may be more compounded” than Thanksgiving “because it’s a longer holiday.”
“We’re at a very critical time in this country right now. We’ve got to not walk away from the facts and the data. This is tough going for all of us” pic.twitter.com/71Peq61Af3
