Industrial Sector Contributes Most to GDP: KEIN

Jakarta: National Economic and Industry Committtee (KEIN) deputy chairman Arief Budimanta said Thursday that Indonesian industrial sector contributes signficantly to the country's economic growth.

"Industrial sector grew by 4.25 percent last year. It contributed 19.82 percent to last year's annual growth," Arief said in a written statement received by Medcom.id.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesian economy grew by 5.17 percent in 2018. It was Indonesia's highest annual growth in five years.

In addition to that, Indonesian economy grew by 5.18 percent in the fouth quarter of 2018. It was slightly stronger than earlier expectations.

"Tobacco, textile and leather industries create a lot of jobs. They also use mostly local raw materials," Arief explained.

"Automotive sales increased by 4.46 percent last year. It was supported by strong local metal and machinery industries," Arief stated.
