We talk a lot about the chicken sandwich wars around here, but to some fast-food chicken lovers, the sauces that go with the chicken are just as important. McDonald’s has its iconic McNugget dipping sauces. Taco Bell created a creamy chipotle sauce for its chicken sandwich. Chick-fil-A’s sauces are so beloved that they are sold in grocery stores.
Church's Texas Chicken also understands that sauce is an important part of the meal, and after many years of fans begging for it, the chicken chain’s cult-favorite sauce is finally returning to the menu.
Purple Pepper Sauce Is Back
Church’s always has Texas Pete hot sauce on hand to serve with its fried chicken, chicken tenders, and chicken sandwiches, but now chicken lovers can choose between the hot sauce and its Purple Pepper Sauce that is “godly,” according to one Redditor.

The sauce is Church’s signature, one-of-a-kind blend of habanero peppers, bell peppers, and what the brand calls “sticky-sweet goodness.” Four years ago, when Redditors were chatting about missing the sauce, one of them described it as “a purple pepper jelly that was slightly sweet and had a small heat to it,” and then concluded, “Man it was great.”
“In this chicken lover’s lowly opinion,” said another, “Church’s is good, but with that pepper sauce it’s godly.”
“This stuff was AMAZING. Nothing else like it. Sweet chili, mango habanero nothing compared,” someone else chimed in.
Church’s Chicken hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but that doesn’t mean its social media followers haven’t caught wind that this yummy sauce is back on the menu. On its latest Instagram post about one of its signature chicken sandwiches, one fan asked, “Can I just buy the Purple Pepper sauce in bulk??”
If the Purple Pepper Sauce is as good as fans say, maybe Church’s needs to follow Chick-fil-A’s lead and make it available in grocery stores. For now, we can only hope that the beloved dipping sauce will stick around for good this time.
