Potential Jets draft target Sauce Gardner makes bold claim on Twitter - Jets X-Factor

Possible New York Jets target Sauce Gardner makes it clear where he views himself in the 2022 NFL draft class

It’s clear that if there’s one thing Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner has plenty of as the 2022 NFL draft draws closer, it’s confidence.

On Sunday evening, the former Cincinnati cornerback gave his insight on the upcoming draft class via Twitter:

“I’m the best player in the draft,” Gardner tweeted.

While there aren’t many who would agree with him at this point, Gardner’s claim isn’t all that far-fetched. Following this past season in which he registered three interceptions and three sacks, he was a consensus All-American as well as the AAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Gardner also did not give up a single touchdown in coverage during his entire 33-game college career, and he foresees that streak continuing at the professional level. “I don’t have plans on giving one up in the NFL,” Gardner said last month at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Corners need a certain level of cockiness to be good in the NFL — it’s the nature of the position. You’re going to get burned sometimes, but only the most confident and self-assured of the bunch are able to bounce back and remain unfazed when it happens. Gardner looks to be one of those players.

Gardner is far from the only prospect to think of themself as the best in the draft, though. Every year there are prospects who claim to hold this title, and of course, 2022 has been no different. Aside from Gardner, former Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux has gone on record saying he believes himself the best player in the draft.

“The most ridiculous thing I’ve heard is that I’m not the best player in this draft,” Thibodeaux said at his pro day.

Regardless of how many prospects think themselves on top, only one can be the best player in the draft when it’s all said and done. Both of these guys seem to have a solid shot as of now to land with the New York Jets at fourth overall.

The NFL draft will take place in Las Vegas and is set to begin on April 28.
