A few years ago it seemed like sriracha was everywhere and in just about everything. It was the pumpkin spice of hot sauce and one business that really went all in on the sriracha bandwagon was fast food and in particular Wendy’s.
But tastes and foodie fads come and go faster than you can blink and that is what has happened to sriracha in all it’s various versions. You can still find it at smaller restaurants but many of the larger fast food chains have been moving on to bigger and bolder tastes, leaving the sriracha lovers behind.
And that is exactly what is happening at Wendy’s. Social media has been ablaze with word that their Creamy Sriracha Sauce had gone missing at several locations with no word when or if it would return. Now we have the news and if you are a fan it isn’t going to make you happy.
It is being reported by Yahoo that yes, Wendy’s has decided to eliminate their Creamy Sriracha Sauce permanently, never to return. It will now join the beloved and still missed McDLT and Meximelt in the fast food graveyard.
Wendy’s is replacing their Creamy Sriracha Sauce with something better.
But all hope is not lost spice fans. Wendy’s obviously wasn’t going to leave those who enjoy some kick on their food out in the metaphorical cold. Earlier in July Wendy’s revealed a new Ghost Pepper Ranch Sauce that was intended to replace the Creamy Sriracha Sauce. However, fans weren’t aware of that at the time.
So yes, things went about as you’d expect. Fans of the Creamy Sriracha Sauce are not happy. Some have sworn not to return to Wendy’s until it is back, others saying the fast food chain is dead to them. And yes, there is the inevitable petition that has emerged to try and convince Wendy’s they made a mistake.
As all foodies know, people take their favorite menu items very seriously, especially when it comes to fast food. I would do unspeakable things if it meant my beloved McDLT could be brought back so I understand where the fans are coming from.
With all the attention the situation has brought, you can be sure Wendy’s might be already rethinking their decision. Will that mean the sauce will make a comeback? Only time will tell but I wouldn’t bet against it.
