A week after a controversial Facebook post went viral, criticized as misogynist, the owner of an Indiana candy shop has announced that he will sell his business.

Randy Good, the owner of Good's Candy Shop in Anderson, told WISH-TV that the store is for sale "effective immediately."

"I've been at this for 40 years. Perhaps folks are right, I'm out of touch," he said in a statement.

In a May 20 post looking for summer employees, Good described the kind of people he didn't want to hire.

Good, who has owned the shop since 1992, wrote in detail which employee behaviors he disapproves of, such as laziness or tardiness, but the "worst" one he said was "splitting."

"Splitting is a behavior of girls, young mostly but not always. Usually taught by their mothers," the now-deleted post read. "This is the person who talks about others in an attempt to split people apart and feel better about themselves... It's such a common thing among girls. This is where toxicity and drama find their roots."

"Boys seldom practice this. They just duke it out! ha!" Good added.

Tens of thousands of Facebook users responded to the post. Most of the responses were negative.

"Maybe I posted it without enough thought. Maybe I didn't select the right words. For heaven's sake, I barely made it out of high school. It's not like I'm a word genius," he told WISH-TV.

Good had previously defended his remarks, saying that he was speaking about his own experiences with previous employees.

"I wish to begin with an apology," he wrote in a Tuesday post. "As you may know, there have been things typed onto this page that is difficult to read. But not from me! I'm sorry for the language folks have placed in their comments. It's just awful."

"To those of you in town, county state and even those I know, who've publicly attacked and slandered me... I don't care," Good continued. "I can't afford to allow you into my thoughts, as I am in yours. Your statements are insignificant, just as you are to me and the shop. There's always the opportunity in my world where you can apologize, though."

The shop went on to celebrate the stir on social media and the new customers it attracted and resulted in what Good described as "one of the busiest Mondays in a long time."

"This is a gift to me... To those who visited yesterday for the first time, thank you! It was a blast laughing with you!" Good said.

The shop's Facebook account has since been deactivated. Good said anyone interested in buying the shop is welcome to.
