Heather Morris Says the “Only Person Honest” About Lea Michele’s ‘Glee’ Behavior Was Naya Rivera - Vanity Fair

The Glee star discussed Lea Michele’s bad behavior on the podcast Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino.

Heather Morris is still alleging that working with Lea Michele was not exactly a teenage dream. Last summer, Morris made headlines for accusing Michele of bad behavior on the set of Glee, calling out Michele on social media for allegedly treating her costars “with disrespect.” This week, Morris elaborated on those comments on comedian Danny Pellegrino’s podcast Everything Iconic, telling Pellegrino that reports of Michele’s on-set behavior were “very true.”

The Glee star said she got backlash for speaking out about Michele last summer, who was pregnant at the time with her first child, Ever Leo. Morris had joined a chorus of voices speaking out about Michele, saying that her on-set antics allegedly involved bullying, diva-like behavior, and threatening to relieve herself in the wig of her fellow castmate Samantha Ware. Michele apologized in a statement last summer, saying that she “clearly acted in ways which hurt other people,” promising that she will “be better in the future from this experience.” (Ware wasn’t buying it.)

“And I’m like, ‘Guys, she’s pregnant, and all this stuff is going around,’” said Morris, regarding Michele. “It’s true. And I don’t know if maybe we were victims of bullying and that’s a typical victim thing to do, is to blame yourself, which people were saying.”

On the podcast, Morris maintained that the stories about Michele are “all very true,” and that the only person to speak out about Michele’s behavior while it was happening was the late Naya Rivera, who tragically drowned in Lake Piru in July of 2020. “The only person who was honest about it was Naya,” Morris told Pellegrino. “It was something that was very hush-hush on set, and now you see all these things coming out, these bigger names who were very disrespectful and mistreated a lot of people, and people allowed that to happen.” Rivera and Michele had been rumored to be “feuding” on set. (Michele denied the rumors at the time.)

Morris is still struggling with why she didn’t speak out about Michele’s behavior at the time: “I know, genuinely, I didn’t feel like it was my place. I don’t know why—because I was a cast member just like everybody else,” she said. “We all deserve to feel comfortable on a set.”

While Morris hasn’t heard from Michele since, she wishes her luck in her future endeavors. “I always wish her the best of luck,” Morris said. The Glee cast recently reunited virtually to pay tribute to Rivera at the 2021 GLAAD awards. Michele was notably absent.

A representative for Michele did not immediately respond to Vanity Fair’s request for comment.
