Ma'ruf Holds Meeting with Surakarta Mayor

Jakarta: Incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's running mate Ma'ruf Amin held a meeting with Surakarta Mayor Fx Hadi Rudyatmo at his home in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

"I talked about our campaign in Surakarta. We established a campaign center in every district," the PDIP politician told reporters after the meeting.

"We will hold the Nusantara Festival this month. We will gather more than 100 thousand people," he added.

Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters will elect the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.

According to the General Elections Commission (KPU), more than 190 million people will be eligible to vote. In addition to that, around 800 thousand polling station will be opened on the voting day.

President Jokowi served as Surakarta Mayor from 2005 to 2012. The media-savvy politician then served as Jakarta Governor from 2012 to 2014.
