Indonesian Economy Grows 5.17% in 2018

Jakarta: Central Statistics Agency (BPS) chairman Suhariyanyo announced Wednesday that Indonesian gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 5.17 percent in 2018.

On the production side, the highest growth was recorded by the Other Services sector with 8.99 percent. On the expenditure side, the highest growth was posted by the Non-Profit Institutions Serving Households component with 9.08%.

"All sectors recorded positive growth. But some sectors only experienced small growth," Suhariyanto said.

"The government should support the dominant sectors. So the public could enjoy higher growth," the BPS leader added.

Economic growth in 2018 was still dominated by provinces in Java region which contributed 58.48 percent to GDP. It was followed by provinces in Sumatra region which contributed 21.58 percent to GDP.

In the fourth quarter of 2018, Indonesian economic growth reached 5.18 percent. In the previous three quarters, the growth reached 5.17 percent.
