A dog can be a best friend and a loyal companion offering comfort and protection. However, who’s to blame when a protective dog crosses the line and becomes dangerous? Dog attacks have been increasing over the last 10 years. Jas Leverette, celebrity pet trainer and behaviorist, star of the Netflix show Canine Intervention, and founder of Cali K9, says it’s up to the pet owners to take responsibility for their animals’ behavior, and there’s usually warning signs in a dog’s behavior to signal trouble. “You have to read their body language. A lot of times it could be fearful. Sometimes, it could just be dominance,” Leverette says. “The signs are there, but we can’t be in denial. When you see anything, you need to treat it like it’s a red flag.” In the video above, Leverette describes the body language to be aware of with dogs. On Friday’s episode of Dr. Phil, “Surviving a Vicious Dog Attack,” Leverette shares what you should and should not do if you are attacked by a dog.
