Bull City Pepper Company of Durham, out of an abundance of caution for consumers with a soy allergy recalled their Death Rides A Bull Hot Sauce due to an undeclared trace amount of soy that was found inside an apple cider vinegar used in the recipe.
There have been no reported cases of allergic reactions to this product. No other batches of Death Rides a Bull or any other Bull City Pepper Company sauces are affected by this recall.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.
Bull City Pepper Company: Death Rides A Bull Hot Sauce was sold online and in retail stores located in Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Retailers in those locations have been notified of the issue, and the company is working with retailers to update the ingredient lists before they can be sold to consumers. Online customers have been contacted about this issue as well.
Bull City Pepper Company Death Rides A Bull Hot Sauce is packaged in 5 fl oz glass bottles. The batch being recalled is labeled with the expiration date “8/14/2024” on the bottom of the bottles (UPC 00860002507354).
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the apple cider vinegar provider changed their ingredients and now contained a small amount of soy in their product. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s ingredients sourcing, and Bull City Pepper Company has put a plan in place to notify its customers and fix the current labels.
New labels are being made to correct the recalled batch to declare all the ingredients present, so they can be available for sale again.
Future production of Death Rides a Bull will use another vinegar supplier that will not include trace amounts of soy.
No other batches or Bull City Pepper Company sauces are affected by this recall.
Those who have purchased 5 fl oz bottles of Death Rides A Bull Hot Sauce that are concerned about soy allergies or have sensitivities to soy are urged to return the product to the place of purchase or contact Bull City Pepper Company for a full refund.
