The frontotemporal dementia that Bruce Willis was diagnosed with on 16 February left the world of cinema in shock. The 'Die Hard' star had been suffering from this ailment for a while and the news was communicated to all his fans through an official statement written by his family.

"It's a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis," a statement read.

Now, in an interview published by the Bild newspaper, a person close to the actor claims that his symptoms have worsened.

The symptoms first began to show up in Bruce Willis, as reported by the British newspaper Daily Mail, two years earlier. During the filming sessions in which the actor was present, people present could already sense that something was not right.

He had difficulty in holding conversations, coupled with not being able to connect words correctly.

Bruce Willis' family's efforts to understand his illness

A month ago, the statement written by his wife Emma Heming was the official confirmation of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). However, neither she nor his two daughters have been separated from him.

His wife has even asked Teepa Snow, a dementia specialist, to help her learn how to care for him and what he needs as his disease progresses.

Likewise, his wife has become his staunchest protector, along with his children. In recent weeks, she wrote on her social media to journalists to stop harassing Bruce Willis on a day when he was meeting friends in Santa Monica.

"This goes out to the photographers and cameramen who are trying to get those exclusives on my husband: just keep your distance," she posted.

"Please don't yell at my husband asking him how he's doing or whatever, just don't do it, give him his space. Allow our family or whoever is with him that day to get him from point A to point B safely."

His illness is getting worse

German newspaper Bild has published an interview with Wilfried Gliem, who claims to be Bruce Willis' uncle-in-law. In the conversation, Gliem reveals what the actor's mother, Marlene Willis, thinks.

"She says she is not sure that her son recognizes her, that his behavior is slow and a bit aggressive," Gliem commented.

"It's not possible to have a normal conversation. Bruce's mother keeps us informed. We call each other once a month.

"Scout and Tallulah are two very strong girls who are now there for their father, just as he used to be there for them."
