The number of arrests, while spectators were waiting overnight for Pasadena’s Rose Parade to begin, remained low in 2022, even after a year’s absence due to the pandemic.

On a cold morning, Lt. Anthony Burgess of the Pasadena Police Department reported a total of four arrests  — three  for drunken behavior and  one for an  individual getting into a fight with an officer.

“That’s pretty good,” Burgess said. “If you remember the last couple of years, the numbers were low.”

Two years ago the number was three and in 2019, seven were arrested. Four were arrested in 2018. The numbers used to be higher.

In 2013, more than 20 were arrested. Years ago, the department would make hundreds of arrests, police said.

Burgess, along with Southern California News Group reporters, also said the numbers of people along the route appeared to be lower than in past years.
