There’s hot sauce, and then there’s truffle hot sauce. Truff, the brand behind the latter, makes three different levels of hot sauce each infused with truffles for eating with just about anything. Dip fries in it, dab a little on a sandwich or add it to a recipe to kick things up a notch.
Los Angeles-based founders Nick Guillen and Nick Ajluni launched Truff through Instagram (@sauce) in December 2017 and since, have made a name for themselves as a luxury hot sauce brand. “The sauce that we wanted didn’t exist,” the brand’s Instagram bio reads. Truff sauces are sold at Whole Foods, Wegmans, Amazon and even Neiman Marcus.
“Chilies are picked and packed immediately,” Ajluni told Foodbeast in 2018. “We import our truffle and truffle essence from Italy. Our black truffle is real black truffle.”
And people love it! Celebrities like Pusha T and chef Tyler Florence have co-signed the sauce. Oprah even added it to her list of favorite things in 2019.
Truff makes three sauces: Truff Hot Sauce, Hotter Sauce and White Truffle Hot Sauce. The flavor of each combines the perfect mix of chili and truffles. There’s not so much truffle that it overpowers the chilies, but there’s enough to let you know it’s there.
However, it’s no secret that truffles aren’t cheap, so you’re going to pay a premium price for a premium sauce. The Truff Hot Sauce and Hotter Sauce each retail for $17.98. The White Truffle Hot Sauce is the least hot of the three, but is a limited edition, capitalizing on the limited season availability of white truffles. Therefore, it’s also more expensive, with one bottle retailing for $34.99.
