Last week, a Texas mom published a viral video of her opening up a Taco Bell hot sauce packet and finding a clear liquid she claimed smelled like bleach. Sherail Compass said that she got the packets from her local Taco Bell in Allen, a city near Plano in North Texas.
The video of her tearing open the packets received 5.2 million views and over 554,000 likes. She also filmed another video of her taking back the packets to her local Taco Bell, telling the employees in the store about the clear liquid hot sauce packets.
On Friday, November 18, Taco Bell told MySA that it was actively looking into the complaints with its suppliers. The company also stated, "out of an abundance of caution, we have removed the sauce packets in question from the reported restaurants."
In the past few days, Compass posted several videos of her frustration with Taco Bell. On Tuesday, November 22, she filmed her phone call with Taco Bell. The company confirmed to her that its supplier tested that the content is not harmful if consumed.
Taco Bell said it investigated what cases were impacted by its supplier, adding that the packets contained vinegar and water solution and not bleach. The company said the vinegar and water solution is from a rinse solution that occurs at the beginning of the production process.
The Texas mom said she hopes the company can come to her home to test the hot sauce packets she has to determine that it's only water and vinegar, not bleach like she claimed it to be. Taco Bell said it would take in her request but doesn't know if that's possible.
