CLEVELAND, Ohio – It’s time to break out a pot and a box of pasta today on National Spaghetti Day.

While a big pan of pasta sauce simmering away on the stove is a nice thought, the convenience of being able to pop open a jar from the pantry makes for a quicker -- and much simpler -- meal, especially with so many great-tasting sauce options on supermarket shelves.

But with the plethora of sauce jars lining grocery store shelves it can be overwhelming to choose one. We’re here to help you choose a delicious pasta sauce, and let you know which ones to avoid.

cleveland.com reporters Yadi Rodriguez and Brenda Cain spent weeks taste-testing 174 jars of pasta sauces found at grocery stores, then ranked them all to help you decide which ones to buy.

But we didn’t stop there. As 2020 wrapped up we decided to give Alfredo sauces some attention, and taste-tested, and ranked, 24 Alfredo pasta sauces purchased from various grocers.

Finally, the Penzone family contacted us and we sampled their three red pasta sauces that are now being sold locally.
